Digital Strategy Success Stories

Full case studies are coming soon!
—James

In 2021, I led the news/newsletter team at Ladders and dramatically improved the quality and quantity of content by raising the standards, revamping the workflow process, and integrating more syndication partners. Within six months, the journalism wing of the company was sold to Industry Dive in a multimillion-dollar deal.

At the onset of COVID, I helped De Gustibus — New York's legendary culinary school — develop video (virtual) classes that stream live from the kitchen stage in Manhattan. This is now available for all in-house classes and has created several new revenue streams. Newsletter improvements increased the average open rate, which hovered between 40% and 50%.

As VP/Content at travel site ThePointsGuy.com, I created the brand's tentpole "TPG Reports," oversaw a soup-to-nuts redesign, built a 24/7 newsroom team, and doubled traffic from 2.5 to 5 million unique. Credit-card affiliate revenue hit unprecedented highs and Red Ventures bought the site's parent company, Bankrate, for over a billion dollars.

While I was the digital director at Details.com (Condé Nast), I oversaw digital, mobile, and editorial strategy across all platforms. I increased traffic tenfold, quadrupled the pace of content creation, and expanded syndication with third-party companies like Buzzfeed, Liquor.com, and Equinox. I also created dozens of new video series and launched the Style Syndicate, a wholly independent influencer network/community hosting content from the world's top men's style bloggers — which provided a platform for all kinds of sponsored content.

Before Details, I was the shelter-sites web director at Hearst Digital, where I guided the transformation of GoodHousekeeping.com, HouseBeautiful.com, and CountryLiving.com. Before Hearst, I was executive editor of Epicurious and led the editorial team to numerous awards, including a James Beard, Webby, MIN, NY Emmy, OMMA, and MPA. I also helped launch the “Epi-Log” blog and contributed to the development of the site's iPhone app, which has been downloaded more than 10 million times.
